This ZoomPod (Zoom + Podcast) series of recorded conversations features professionals from different disciplines and walks of life to discuss their careers, definitions of and perspectives on speculative design, and reflect on the future of their individual creative realms. The goal of this series is to help students understand what it means to think and create beyond our contemporary moment and means, a particularly poignant class for the 2020 world we currently live in. How can we think beyond our present moment to design for a future we would like to help shape? How can we draw inspiration from the past and present to guide us as creators? This course will explore the core concepts and theories of contemporary speculative design. The series will include notable speakers from the contemporary art, graphic design, and Hollywood realms, including several UCI MFA Art alumna.

The ZoomPod series is being conducted in conjunction with Speculative Design FA20, a course being overseen by Jesse Jackson, and developed and taught by Ivy Guild (UCI MFA Art ‘21). The ZoomPod series seeks to reenergize the online learning experience, while also expanding the reach of the course to students outside of the Speculative Design class. Students who want to open their own inquiries will be able to do so with the comment section and contact information generously provided by the speakers.
